I was never the type to wear makeup in high school so my acne was never that bad, but I would get hormonal acne. It was closer to my final year in high school when I notice my skin began to get worse. I would break out a lot more, sometimes it was because of hormones but it was usually really random and generally in my t-zone area. I definitely didn’t help because I could pick at my pimple, which would cause them to scare. That’s when I noticed my scars would linger longer than usual.
It wasn’t until 2013 that I decided to change my skincare routine. I was watching a lot of youtube videos that I discovered Tea Tree. At that point, I made it my mission to read all about the benefits of tea tree and how it can help my acne. I’ll never forget buying a book on the amazing qualities of tea tree.
The first thing I ever used to treat my acne was the Tea Tree Oil Skin Clearing Foaming Cleanser from The Body Shop. The entire bottle is 150 mL which retails for $16 CAD and lasted me about two/three months. I remember being disappointed it didn’t last that long.
I do remember how it helped clear my skin and I did feel like it made a difference for my hyperpigmentation. After that, I decided to switch to the Tea Tree Skin Clearing Facial Wash and felt it worked a lot better! One of the things I love about the Clearing Facal wash is that you can get it in three difference sizes, 60 mL, 250 mL, and 500 mL. So if you're thinking of trying it out and is a little hesistant, do not fear. Just grab the 60 mL, and for $6 what can go wrong!
Since then I can really say it made a difference in my skin!
Shortly after that, I learned about how a toner can help brighten their skin, so I used a couple from my local department store and to be honest, there wasn’t one that I felt helped my skin. So after doing a little research, I found out that you can make your own toner using just Witch Hazel, Tea Tree, Lemon, and Water!
I loved how it wasn’t too harsh on my skin but it did help brighten my skin, I remember my friends asking me about my skincare routine because my skin had really cleared up!
While I was discovering my skincare I’ll admit I didn’t wear makeup daily, it was maybe twice a week but even then I never took off my makeup properly until recently.
Now I really have gotten into Korean Skincare, the 7 Step Method, to be specific.
I’m planning on writing another post about my current skincare routine so I promise not to ramble too much!
But one of my issues looking back was not taking off my makeup properly when I did wear some and also not taking better care of my diet, but the biggest factor of all was my skin care routine. I notice when I just took a few minutes out of my day to care for my skin it really made a difference. Just taking off you make up properly, using a natural cleanser, a toner, and moisturizer makes a HUGE difference! I really cannot stress the importance of skincare! Just take a few minutes out of your day to pamper yourself and I can promise you skin will love you for it.
Hope you all learned a thing or two from my journey and I can’t wait to hear about your skin care routine,! I really would love to read all about how you guys treat your acne!
