Ponds Cold Cream: Is It Worth The Hype?

When you hear Cold Cream it probably reminds you of something your grandmother once used, but let me change your perception on this I’ve recently re-discovered this gem and honestly, I’m so glad that I did.The dictionary definition of cold cream is that it’s a cosmetic preparation used for cleansing and softening the skin, but what I love about Ponds Cold Cream is that it makes taking off your waterproof makeup and sunscreen so easy!
My skin type is an oily/combination, and even putting something like Ponds doesn’t break me out! I have been using Ponds Cold Cream for 6 months so I would say I have a fair opinion of it.
When I first tested out the cream I noticed that it has a thick consistency to it, but once you begin to massage it in the white cream will melt into an oil.
Let me assure you that it will not clog your pores. The trick to using your cold cream is to always wash it off with a damp cloth. Afterwards, you'll want to make sure to wash your your face with foam cleanser. These two tricks have really helped reduce my acne!
For those with dry or sensitive skin, this product is dermatologist tested and is perfect for you too! Just make sure to follow the same steps but instead of using a damp cloth, try a dry cloth and continue with a cleanser afterwards.

Another tip to remember is that a little goes a long way with this product, try to use less than a dime size amount for each section of your face (forehead, cheeks, neck, and nose/eyes) and if you feel like you need more add until your face and neck is evenly covered. One thing that I love about this cold cream is that it doesn’t irritate the eyes, so it’s really easy to take off my waterproof mascara!
‘But, wait. Did she just say her neck?’
Yes, I did! A lot of you forget that your neck is a part of your face as well! You don’t want a young face and a saggy neck, do you?
So with that being said, always remember the importance of washing your neck!
There are a lot of qualities that I love about Ponds, but a big one for me is that it’s perfect for the colder months. Here in Canada, the harsh weather can easily dry and irritate the skin, but with Ponds Cold Cream it helps add moisture to the skin without stripping it of natural oils. When I began to ‘double cleanse’ I noticed that my skin was a lot clearer and brighter in the morning.
Another random quality that I love about Ponds Cold Cream is that you can even use it to take off your antiperspirant deodorant! Now bear with me for a second, I know a lot of you have probably used a clinical deodorant in the past and one thing I hate is the residue it leaves. You can attempt to wash it off with soap but that never works so I found that if I use a bit of cold cream it helps to remove the leftover deodorant!
These were just a few things I loved about the product. Now it is time to get to the nitty-gritty, is it worth the hype?
For someone who doesn’t care that much for his or her skincare routine then this product will probably be foreign to them.
I will be honest and admit that if you just attempt to wipe off the product without a second cleanse then you might be bothered by it. The consistency of this cream is heavy so I noticed that with my oily combination skin I did break out once or twice when I tried to get away with not washing my face. The cream leaves a bit of an oily residue and for someone with dry skin that’s perfect for them.
Unfortunately, in my case, I have to wash it off with a foam cleanser afterwards. You could say that it is a bit of a task to constantly wipe and wash your face with this product.
In addition, they do not sell this product in a travel size so when travelling the cold cream can take up a large amount of space. Now this one isn’t that big of a deal but it would be a bonus if they added a little spatula for it because I am one of the germ freaks where I prefer to use a spatula to reduce the potential of germs getting in.
I’ve read before that people with dry skin have been using this as a moisturizer and I would not recommend that. The main reason is that your skin is dry from a lack of moisture. One tip is to use a toner every day and night after washing your face and to incorporate a face sheet mask twice a week!
Overall, I would repurchase this product for the colder months but wouldn’t recommend using it during the summer. I love the way my skin feels after I use it and the fact that a little bit of product does really go a LONG way!
Overall, it's great for people who are just getting introduced to the skincare world and people who have sensitive skin. If you wish to know more about the ingredients they use in this product be sure to check out this link for more information!
